We are looking for a Senior Quantum Software Engineer to help bring our internally developed graph-based calibration (GBC) framework to the next level. You will be part of the Calibration Automation team, focusing on developing and maintaining the framework behind our calibration orchestrator, whose use cases are not going to be limited by calibration issues.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of software engineering and quantum hardware operations, developing high-performance, reliable, and user-friendly calibration automation tools that are critical to IQM’s quantum computing roadmap.

There is also the opportunity to grow into a leading developer role, shaping the technical direction of the framework.

What will I be doing?

  • Developing and maintaining the calibration automation framework and its graph-based architecture

  • Designing and implementing new software features requested by calibration engineers and users

  • Improving performance, scalability, usability, testing, and documentation of the framework

  • Fixing bugs and ensuring long-term maintainability of the codebase

  • Supporting calibration engineers who use the framework for internal and external QPU calibrations

  • Collaborating with the broader software department to integrate calibration automation into IQM’s software products

  • Advising and supporting quantum engineers in their daily work related to calibration automation

  • Taking ownership of a technical focus area and contributing to architectural decisions

What skills do I need?

  • Strong background in software engineering, with experience developing and maintaining production-level software

  • At least 3-8 years of professional software development experience

  • Excellent Python programming skills

  • Experience with multiple programming languages and technology stacks, and motivation to keep learning

  • MSc or BSc in Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent practical experience

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in systems programming languages like C/ C++/ Rust

  • Familiarity with web development

  • Understanding of quantum computing concepts

  • Experience working in scientific, R&D, or deep-tech environments

  • Familiarity with performance optimization and large-scale software systems

What can I expect from IQM?

  • At IQM, you can expect to contribute to groundbreaking projects that shape the future of quantum computing. Your work on calibration automation software is mission-critical: the frameworks you build and scale directly enable the calibration and operation of increasingly large quantum processors, from today’s systems to future architectures.

  • You will thrive in a creative and open start-up environment that values technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement. IQM encourages engineers to take responsibility for meaningful parts of the system, influence technical direction, and continuously refine performance, usability, testing, and documentation. Learning and innovation are part of everyday work, supported by close collaboration with highly skilled quantum engineers and scientists.

  • We offer a highly international and fast-paced environment where collaboration across disciplines and cultures is essential. You’ll work closely with calibration engineers, software teams, and R&D groups across locations, contributing to shared solutions and ensuring that complex systems work seamlessly together.

  • As a rapidly growing organization, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in our exciting success story. Your contributions will have visible impact as the company scales its technology and software platforms. Senior engineers are not just implementers. They are trusted partners in building the foundations of a global quantum computing leader.
